Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. She lived with 12 other children. Her vivid imagination was a great way to get away from life's harsh reality. life. She was writing songs before she could write or read. The first time she picked up a guitar was when she was just 8 years old and started singing at the Knoxville Tenn radio station at age eleven. In the same year, she recorded her first recording on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. While she was a local star while in high school, her dreams were much bigger. After she finished her high school, in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated television show host at the time was searching for a singer for his program. Parton was signed to RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. The band split in 1974, when her solo hits such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene oversold her collaborations. Parton's hit song, I'll Never Love You (for Wagoner), hit the top of the. number 1 position after the duo separated. 1. for the first time in 1974.
